The Math Behind the Estimate

Every projection starts from the classic energy-balance model. The tool multiplies your per-occurrence calorie impact by the total number of times the habit happens in a year to get an annual calorie figure. That annual figure is then divided by 3,500 to estimate pounds of body-weight change, or by 7,700 to estimate kilograms. These constants come from the general rule that a pound of body fat stores roughly 3,500 kcal, and a kilogram of fat roughly 7,700 kcal.
